Protect Heat Exchangers from Erosion & Corrosion Damage - When chillers are opened for inspection, you can almost always find significant erosion and corrosion damage on uncoated systems. ENECON products provide long-term protection from erosion and corrosion damage, extending the life of these valuable property assets. Contact us today to see how ENECON can provide you with a cost-effective solution to erosion and corrosion challenges.

  • CeramAlloy CP+AC is a trowelable system that can be used to protect heat exchangers from erosion and corrosion damage.
  • CeramAlloy CL+AC is a brush applied, liquid ceramic polymer composite that can be used to resurface and protect all wet areas from aggressive erosion/corrosion attack.

Case Study

A Heat Exchanger [aka Chiller, HEX] removes heat from a water stream collected by the Air Handler Units [AHUs] in the building. This stream is known as the EVAPORATOR circuit. The HEX transfers the heat to an alternate water stream [known as the CONDENSER circuit] that takes the heat to a cooling tower [CT] to be expelled to the atmosphere.

Since the CONDENSER circuit is exposed to the atmosphere, via the time in the CT, it is oxygenated and is more aggressive at promoting corrosion within the CONDENSER side of the HEX than the EVAPORATOR circuit

Here we see the tubesheet of a Chiller. Note the corrosion and white calcium deposits on the surface. There is also erosion around the copper cooling tubes, as they are in contact with the ferrous metal tubesheet and both are in contact with the circulating water which promotes very aggressive bi-metal corrosion.

Damaged Tube Sheet

Here is a picture of the corresponding cover for the tubesheet, showing corrosion blisters under the calcium deposits.

Tubesheet Cover

This is the tubesheet after treatment with CeramAlloy CP+AC [paste] to seal around the tube field, eliminating bi-metal corrosion potential, and overall protective coating with CeramAlloy CL+AC [liquid],putting a ceramic coating over all surfaces exposed to water which will prevent future corrosion.

Tubesheet After Treatment

Here is the HEX cover after treatment with CeramAlloy CP+AC to repair severe corrosion damage and overall coating with CeramAlloy CL+AC for corrosion protection.

HEX cover after treatment

Will this last?

This is that same cover after 1 year. The shine is still on the CeramAlloy CL+AC, marred only by a slight calcium haze [more easily removed than without treatment] and slight corrosion stains from attached piping.
